Cover the Cost Now So Your Family Only Has to Grieve

A funeral in Illinois typically costs between $8,000 and $12,000. Final expense insurance gives your family the money they need to cover those costs — without going into debt, without delays, and without having to figure it out during the hardest days of their lives.

What Final Expense Insurance Actually Covers

Final expense life insurance — sometimes called burial insurance or funeral insurance — is a whole life policy designed specifically for end-of-life costs. The benefit amount is smaller than traditional life insurance, which keeps premiums affordable, and the application process is far simpler.

Most final expense policies through our carriers offer benefit amounts between $5,000 and $25,000, with monthly premiums typically ranging from $20 to $100 depending on your age, the benefit amount you choose, and your health profile. Coverage is permanent — it does not expire as long as premiums are paid — and the benefit goes directly to your named beneficiary, not to a funeral home.

Two Types of Final Expense Coverage — and How to Know Which One Fits

Not every senior qualifies for the same product, and that is exactly why working with an independent agency matters. We represent multiple carriers and can match you to the right policy based on your health history and budget.

Simplified Issue

Simplified issue final expense policies ask a short series of health questions — no medical exam, no lab work, no doctor visits. If you can answer yes to basic health eligibility questions, simplified issue typically offers lower premiums and immediate full coverage from day one.

Guaranteed Issue

Guaranteed issue policies ask nothing about your health. No questions, no exam, no review of your medical history. If you have been declined for life insurance before because of a serious diagnosis, a guaranteed issue policy from one of our carriers will approve you regardless. Coverage typically includes a graded benefit period of two years, after which the full death benefit is in effect.

Which One Is Right for You?

We review your situation with you — your health history, your budget, and how much coverage your family would need — and recommend the product that gives you the most benefit for the least cost. There is no reason to pay for a guaranteed issue policy if a simplified issue policy is available to you, and there is no reason to go without coverage if guaranteed issue is the path forward.

A Note for Our Spanish-Speaking Community

In many Hispanic families, planning for end-of-life costs is an act of love and responsibility — not a morbid conversation, but a practical one rooted in caring for the people you leave behind. We understand that, and we have served this community for over a decade. More than 90% of our clients are served in Spanish, and our team is ready to walk through every detail of your policy in the language you are most comfortable with.

How the Claims Process Works — Before Your Family Ever Needs It

One of the most common concerns we hear is: "Will my family actually be able to access this money quickly when the time comes?" It is a fair question, and the answer depends entirely on how prepared they are.

When we set up your final expense policy, we do not just hand you a document and move on. We walk you and your family through exactly what happens when a claim needs to be filed — which documents the carrier will need, how to contact them, and what the typical payout timeline looks like. Most carriers process final expense claims within a few days to two weeks once documentation is submitted. We make sure your family knows the process now, so they are not learning it under pressure later.

Common Questions About Final Expense Insurance in Illinois

  • How much does final expense insurance cost in Illinois?

Most seniors between 65 and 80 pay between $20 and $100 per month, depending on age, the benefit amount selected, and the type of policy. A $10,000 simplified issue policy for a healthy 68-year-old typically falls on the lower end of that range. We compare rates across multiple carriers to find the most affordable option for your situation.
  • Can I get final expense insurance over 70 in Illinois?

Yes. Most of our carriers offer final expense coverage up to age 85, and guaranteed issue products are available regardless of health status. Age does affect your premium, but coverage is still accessible and often more affordable than people expect.
  • What is the difference between final expense insurance and burial insurance?

They refer to the same category of product. "Burial insurance" and "funeral insurance" are common terms people use when searching, but the policy itself is a whole life insurance policy with a smaller benefit amount designed to cover end-of-life costs including funeral and burial expenses, outstanding medical bills, and other final expenses.
  • Will my family have to wait to receive the money?

For simplified issue policies, the full benefit is typically available from day one. Guaranteed issue policies include a graded benefit period — usually two years — during which the carrier pays a return of premiums plus interest if the insured passes away. After that period, the full death benefit is paid. We explain this clearly during your consultation so there are no surprises.
  • I was declined for life insurance before. Can I still get covered?

Yes. Guaranteed issue final expense insurance through our carriers does not ask about your health history and does not require a medical exam. A prior decline does not affect your eligibility. We work with carriers specifically designed for applicants who have been turned down elsewhere.
